Financial support for early-career researchers

We are happy to announce that we have secured funding from the National Science Foundation to provide financial support for early-career researchers attending Beyond IID 12!

We are currently planning to cover the local accommodation of a limited number of students. To this end, we have reserved both single and double rooms at a local hotel. If you receive financial support, you most likely will be asked to share a room with another supported student. We will make sure to only match you with someone you’re comfortable sharing a room with – this will be handled once decisions about funding have been made.

To apply for financial support, please fill out the following application form: https://forms.illinois.edu/sec/743397299

We are requesting the following information in the form:

  • Contact information of the applicant
  • position of application and name of advisor (if applicable)
  • research area/interests
  • membership in underrepresented groups
  • paper(s) submitted to Beyond IID 12 (if applicable)
  • additional funding sources
  • contact information of a reference (can be the advisor or someone else)

The deadline for submitting an application for financial support is May 10, after which the recipients of financial support will be selected by the local organizing committee. Notifications about the decision will be sent out by June 3.

For students receiving financial support the local organizing committee will make the bookings for local accommodation. We therefore ask everyone applying for support to not book any accommodation before the notification deadline.

Visa application letters

If you need an invitation letter to apply for a US visa to attend the conference, please get in touch with the local organizing committee at beyondiid-2024@illinois.edu.

The US consulates are strongly suggesting to include information about papers to be presented and financial support in these invitation letters. To accommodate this, the program committee (PC) chair Mario Berta has agreed to consider papers for early approval as posters. Hence, if you already have (one of) your submission(s) ready now, you can submit them using the guidelines in the Call for submissions, and have it considered as a poster by the PC. Note that all early submissions will still be considered for talks during the normal PC reviewing phase starting after the submission deadline of May 2, even if they were pre-approved as posters.

If your paper is pre-approved as a poster you may also apply for financial support as explained above, and your request will be reviewed as soon as possible. In this case, please follow the guidelines explained above to submit your work and an application for financial support, and then notify both the PC chair at bertamario@gmail.com and the local organizing committee at beyondiid-2024@illinois.edu.
